Having a baby can really throw new parents’ lives into chaos and disarray. Still, it is one of the most amazing experiences most of us will ever go through. We just need to understand the expectations that come with it.
Having a newborn in the house will undoubtedly add some unexpected changes to the way you do things. You will not sleep, for example, because newborns do not sleep.
You will eventually adjust your lifestyle to the changes that come to you. But at first, the lack of sleep will lead to problems like stress and crankiness throughout the days.
When you become a parent, you will have an upheaval in your social life also. This is not surprising, everything will take a lot of time and effort to make it happen. Even a trip to grandma’s is a major ordeal for new baby families.
Your friends, especially those without children of their own, will tend to be difficult to keep in touch with the way you did before. But you can make the effort and you will maintain those ties.
But the benefits are there also. There are parents who just report all sorts of warm gushy feelings as they move into parental roles in their lives. But they also become protective and more maternal or paternal, whatever the case may be. Both parents say this, to each other, as they lay in bed talking about it.
You will feel the changes as they happen to you. The biggest is that you will now feel that the world has consequences for more than just yourself; it affects your child too.
Keeping all of this in mind will help you to anticipate all of these changes that will happen to you and your family. It is important to have a support system in place to help cope with these things.
